Knowledge & Innovation Labs
Knowledge Labs create the technical and organisational foundation countries need before diagnosing their own bottlenecks. Each lab connects country teams, technical experts and partners around a defined health system challenge — producing a lab book that feeds directly into Country Clinics, the Hackathon and 30–60 day implementation pledges.
What is a KLIC Lab?
Most workshops produce slide decks. KLIC Labs produce lab books — structured, living documents that define what each country will do, who owns it, and how progress will be measured. The lab is the first phase: it creates the shared foundation that makes Country Clinics and 30–60 day implementation pledges possible.
Each lab opens with a scoped, country-agreed health system challenge — not a broad theme.
Ministry officials, donors, technical experts, innovators, and implementers in the same room — with equal voice.
Every lab produces a lab book: a country-specific, versioned execution guide with owners, milestones, and metrics.
Labs feed directly into Country Clinics, the Hackathon and implementation pledges — turning insight into country-led action within 30–60 days using existing authority and systems.
Lab Themes
Labs are scoped around priority challenges submitted by country teams. Themes are drawn from the full range of domains addressed across KLIC cycles 2023–2025.
Equity gaps, cold-chain resilience, demand generation, and adaptation to environmental stress including extreme heat.
2023–2025AI readiness assessments, predictive analytics for disease burden and supply chain, and responsible AI deployment frameworks for LMICs.
2024–2025Data standards, interoperability frameworks, platform governance, and integration of digital tools across health system layers.
2023–2025Last-mile delivery, stockout prevention, climate resilience of cold chains, and financing mechanisms for essential commodities under environmental stress.
2023–2025Community health workers, trust-building, frontline supervision, and integration of community actors into formal health systems at national scale.
2023–2025Domestic resource mobilisation, recurrent cost realism, innovative financing mechanisms, and alignment of donor funding with national health priorities.
2024–2025Geographic mapping of missed populations, equity gap analysis, spatial data tools, and targeting of zero-dose and underserved communities.
2024–2025Training models, digital supervision tools, performance incentives, and integration of workforce development into routine health system management.
2025Health information systems, routine data use for decision-making, dashboards, and building country capacity to act on their own data.
2023–2025The Lab Book
The KLIC Lab Book is the primary output of every Knowledge & Innovation Lab. Unlike conference proceedings or policy briefs, the Lab Book is designed to be used — updated, annotated, and followed by country teams throughout the 90-day execution cycle.
Each lab book contains the challenge statement, the evidence review, the agreed country-specific recommendations, named implementation owners, 30-60-90 day milestones, and a monitoring framework. It is a governance document as much as a knowledge document.
